The foundation of our Nation

As the years have gone by I have become more and more aware of the importance of us, as Americans, knowing and understanding our history and the foundations upon which we are built if we are to remain steady and strong.
Through out the years of raising my children and meeting their friends and acquaintances, I have become acutely aware that many members of younger generations lack anything but superficial knowledge of the foundations of our nation, our republic. Many times the information they do have is a mixture of different ideas and cliches that have little or no basis in historical fact. There is much confusion and a lack of understanding on the day to day workings of our government, the Declaration of Independence, our Constitution and the historical figures that have shaped our nation from when this land was first discovered to present.
Somehow, over the course of the years, the the text book history began changing to correct what had been the presentation of only the "good" parts of many individuals and situations in our national history. While corrections were necessary to better present the truth, it quickly became a case of "throwing the baby out with the bath water". In the end great chunks of relevant necessary information began being left out of our children's text books and much our national history has been rewritten or removed from their education.
Discovering the lack of pertinent historical education for our younger generations spurred me on to rediscover our history for myself. In my readings I didn't discovered "perfect" people but people with faults and weaknesses who still exhibited the great courage, fore sight and perseverance that contributed to the shaping of our nation. These historical lives and situations are exciting, inspiring and motivating and I feel such a loss in that most of our children typically not know anything beyond the basics of the basics!
Through my readings I was astounded to discover how many times our historical forefathers felt that divine Providence was at work in the shaping of this new world. This understanding of divine Providence goes back to when this new land was first discovered to the arrival of the Pilgrims and Puritans and it carries forward and is found in the wording in the Declaration of Independence, the Revolutionary War and beyond.
This blog has been started to keep abreast of what is happening in our politics, government and current events in light of the historical significance of this nation and our foundation and "a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence".
